How much to ask for when changing jobs

Salary negotiation has always been tricky for me. Whenever I get an offer, I either feel like I asked for too little or pushed too far and lost the chance. This time, I’d like to approach things with a more strategic approach. How do you know what’s considered fair pay for your background, and where do you draw the line so you’re not underselling yourself but also not pricing yourself out?

One thing that really helps is to compare what you bring to the table with standard salary data that employers themselves use. There’s a solid breakdown here: https://salaryslip.org/salary-expectations-by-education-level/, which lists the average salaries for different education levels. It’s not the only factor, of course—skills and experience matter a lot—but knowing these benchmarks gives you a strong base to negotiate from. Employers usually respect when you come prepared with real numbers instead of vague demands.
